Casio Duro Review

When it comes to affordable, reliable, and durable dive watches, the Casio Duro (MDV106) stands out as a true gem in the world of timepieces. This watch is often hailed as one of the best budget-friendly dive watches on the market, and it’s easy to see why. Join us as we take a closer look at this remarkable piece of wristwear.

Overall Design (4/5)

The Casio Duro embraces a classic dive watch aesthetic, with a robust and no-nonsense design. Its 44mm stainless steel case is well-proportioned and has a solid presence on the wrist. The watch features a unidirectional rotating bezel with a clear, easy-to-read design. The large luminous markers and hands are excellent for low-light visibility, a crucial feature for any diver. While the design is somewhat conservative, it’s undoubtedly practical and versatile.

Build Quality (4.5/5)

The Casio Duro (MDV106) impresses with its build quality, especially considering its affordable price point. The stainless steel case feels sturdy and durable, and it boasts a water resistance rating of 200 meters (660 feet), making it suitable for recreational diving. The screw-down crown ensures an extra layer of protection against water intrusion, and the mineral crystal offers decent scratch resistance. This watch is built to withstand the rigors of everyday wear and underwater adventures.

Movement (3.5/5)

Inside the Casio Duro, you’ll find a Japanese quartz movement. While quartz movements lack the mechanical charm of automatics, they are highly accurate and require minimal maintenance. The inclusion of a battery-powered movement keeps the watch affordable and reliable, making it an excellent choice for those who value precision.

Comfort (4/5)

The Casio Duro wears comfortably on the wrist, thanks to its well-proportioned case and lightweight resin strap. The strap is comfortable for daily wear and easily adjustable to fit a range of wrist sizes. The watch’s weight won’t bog you down during long hours of wear, making it suitable for a variety of activities, including diving.

Value for Money (5/5)

One of the most compelling aspects of the Casio Duro (MDV106) is its exceptional value for money. For a watch in this price range, it offers reliable build quality, good looks, and decent water resistance. Whether you’re a seasoned diver or simply looking for a stylish and affordable timepiece, the Casio Duro delivers on all fronts.

What’s Good about this watch

Just because something is CHEAP doesn’ mean you should go out and buy one. But the Casio Duro is NOT cheap as such – that infers low quality. What it actually represents is AMAZING VALUE for MONEY. Let’s look at some of the PRO’s of this Casio WR200M

  1. Affordability: The Casio MDV106-1A is known for its budget-friendly price point. It provides a functional and reliable dive watch without breaking the bank, making it accessible to a wide range of consumers.
  2. Dive-Worthy: This watch is designed for water resistance and is suitable for recreational diving. It has a water resistance rating of 200 meters (660 feet), making it appropriate for snorkeling and most recreational scuba diving activities.
  3. Durable Build: The watch features a stainless steel case and a mineral crystal, making it relatively resistant to scratches and everyday wear and tear. It can handle some rough usage.
  4. Luminous Hands and Markers: The watch’s hands and markers are coated with luminous material, providing excellent visibility in low-light conditions or underwater.

  6. Simple and Classic Design: The watch has a timeless and functional design that appeals to many watch enthusiasts. It’s not overly flashy, making it suitable for both casual and more formal occasions.

What could be Better on the Duro

  1. Limited Features: The Casio MDV106-1A is a basic dive watch, so it lacks some of the advanced features you might find in more expensive models, such as a date complication, a hacking second hand, or a helium release valve.
  2. Bracelet Quality: Some users have reported that the bracelet on this watch is not the highest quality. It might feel a bit flimsy compared to more expensive watches. However, this can be subjective and may not bother everyone.
  3. No Automatic Movement: If you’re a watch enthusiast who prefers automatic movements, you might be disappointed that this watch is powered by a quartz movement.
  4. Lack of Brand Prestige: Casio is generally known for its budget-friendly and practical watches, but it doesn’t carry the same prestige as luxury watch brands. This may or may not matter to you, depending on your preferences.

Should you BUY ONE?

If you want the absolute pinnacle of VALUE for MONEY – YES. The Casio MDV106-1A is considered an amazing value watch – especially for those looking for an affordable and reliable dive watch.
