Omega Seamaster Dive Watch range
Omega launched their first official dive watch in 1948 – the first of many Omega Seamaster watches – a name now synonymous with quality and underwater reliability. The first models utilised their many years producing military grade watches with high levels of water resistancy – not normally found on other watches of that time.
The Omega Seamaster is a popular range of dive watches that has been in production since 1948. The collection includes several models designed for different purposes, such as the Planet Ocean, Diver 300m, Ploprof, and Seamaster 300.

Underwater Timepiece of Jacques Cousteau
Fast forward 9 years to 1957 and we have their first 300m version. Omega Seamaster watches had most definitely arrived and quickly established itself as the must have watch for professional divers. In 1963 Jacques Cousteau – a renowned oceanographer & diver – wore the Seamaster 300. His entire team wore the watch throughout their Conshelf II experiments in the Red Sea – a very impressive endorsement indeed.

Short history of this Superlative Chronometer
Introduced in 1993 – the Omega Seamaster Professional Diver 300m has established itself as a must have watch for everyone from athletes & sailors to celebrities and James Bond. From the outset it was clear the Diver 300m was going to be something special. In that same year professional diver – Roland Specker – achieved a world record freshwater free dive. On his way down to the world record of 80 metres he wore the new Omega Seamaster Diver 300m. The Diver 300m had arrived and established itself as a serious dive watch.
Here some highlights from those early days.
- 1994 – winner of “watch of the year” – voted for by readers of the German magazine Armbanduhren
- 1995 – worn by the late Sir Peter Blake as the helmed “Team New Zealand” to victory in the Admiral’s Cup
- 1995 – enter Pierce Brosnan, James Bond 007 in Golden Eye equipped with his first ever Omega Bond watch.
What to pay for a used Diver 300m
As a general rule the QUARTZ models sell for far less than the mechanical “Co Axial” versions – and rightly so. For example, a 41mm 2541.80 quartz watch in good condition with box & papers might fetch between £1,500 – £1,800 – possibly less. An automatic equivalent version with the Co Axial Calibre 8800 may sell for between £2,500 – £3,000.
The Chronograph models with the extra complications are available with prices starting from £4K – going up beyond £6K depending on condition, full set (box and papers) and overall provenance. Limited Edition models such as Olympic and James Bond versions will control an even greater resale price.
Omega Planet Ocean

At ChronoDivers.com we do have a favourite – and that’s the Omega Planet Ocean 600m. Whether it’s the aesthetic beauty, the distinctive arrowhead hands or the mechanical wizardry of the Omega Master Chronometer calibre 8900 visible through the transparent caseback. We don’t know for sure, it’s probably a culmination of everything that make the Planet Ocean one of the most desirable dive watches on the market. From the current collection the one to keep an eye out for is the Omega Seamaster Planet Ocean 600m GMT.
An instant hit since 2005
The Planet Ocean collection was first introduced in 2005 and has since become a highly sought-after timepiece among watch enthusiasts and professional divers alike. It is known for its robust and reliable construction, making it a favorite among divers who need a watch that can withstand the harsh conditions of deep-sea exploration. The watch features a highly accurate and precise movement, as well as a durable and scratch-resistant sapphire crystal, which allows it to maintain its accuracy and readability even in the most challenging conditions.
A Highly Customisable Timepiece
The Omega Planet Ocean is also highly customisable, with a range of different styles and configurations to choose from. This makes it a popular choice for watch collectors and enthusiasts who want a timepiece that is both functional and stylish.
The Celebrities Favourite
Many notable individuals, including celebrities and professional athletes, have been spotted wearing the Omega Planet Ocean. For example, Daniel Craig wore a specially designed Planet Ocean in the James Bond movie “Skyfall,” while Olympic swimmer Michael Phelps is also known to be a fan of the collection. Other famous ambassadors include: George Clooney, Nicole Kidman and Eddie Redmayne

What to pay for a pre-owned Planet Ocean
Prices for an authentic previous owner Omega Planet Ocean vary widely from as low as £1,500 to as much as £7,000+. The high end market prices are for a clean Chronograph or GMT version with full set of box and papers. Expect to pay in excess of £3,000 for a good to excellent example of the regular Planet Ocean Co Axial 600m Chronometer (eg 2200.50.00) – anything less is great value (assuming all legit).
The limited edition Bond watches are harder to find and command a higher resale value. For a very clean Omega Plant Ocean 007 Bond watch (eg. 232.30.42.21.01.004) expect to pay in the region of £6,000
If it’s good enough for 007 James Bond
It’s a watch of both aesthetic beauty and technical horological excellence. Distinctive arrowhead hands and Omega Master Chronometer calibre 8900 visible through the transparent caseback. Furthermore, it’s a watch that has been certified to a depth of 600m. Equally important for the professional diver are the helium escape valve, ceramic bezel and sapphire crystal.
These are all design features aimed at increased longevity. Unsurprisingly, the Omega Seamaster Planet Ocean watch is one of several highly desirable Omega timepieces with an endorsement from the world’s most famous spy – James Bond.
Affordable alternatives from other leading Swiss brands
Customers considering a pre-owned Planet Ocean might also be interested in two other classic Swiss Brands. Oris and Longines both have timepieces of a similar specification and generally a little less expensive. From the Oris diver’s watch collection consider a new or pre-owned Oris Aquis or even the simple yet brilliant Oris Aquis Depth Gauge. From the collection of Longines Divers watches we’d recommend the Longines Hydroconquest. The Hydronconquest watches are all a minimum of 300 meters water resistant and feature boldly contrasting hour markers and a Tudor snowflake like hour hand.
Master Chronometer status
Everything about the Planet Ocean is a blatant statement in quality and master craftsmanship. The watch has been certified by The Swiss Federal Institute of Metrology to Master Chronometer status, a highly regarded award. And rightly so, to achieve such an accolade a watch must be subjected to, and naturally PASS, 8 rigorous tests.
Omega Seamaster 300

Omega introduced the original Omega Seamaster 300 in 1957. Designed specifically for divers and professionals who worked underwater. Half a century later and this classic timepiece makes a comeback. Now completely upgraded and enhanced – ready for a new generation of adventurers.
A classic Dive Watch reinterpreted
A quick glance at a 1957 Seamaster 300 comparing it to a modern version would leave the layperson questioning which is the new model and which is the original. This is exactly what Omega went out of their way to achieve. This modern reinterpretation of the ’57 classic looks, at first impressions, just like it’s 60 year old grandparent. What to pay for a pre-owned Seamaster 300
The value of the original 1960’s Seamaster 300 continues to climb as finding a good, original condition example gets harder. It is possible to still find a reasonable example of this vintage diver’s watch for under £6,000. A really nice full set vintage model will command an asking price in the region of £8,000 to £10,000. Some of the MILITARY versions from around 1967 with a extra large 12 o’clock triangle can sell for £30K and £75K!
A reinterpretation of the original 1960’s Seamaster 300 released by Omega in 2019. Buying one of these models is the cheapest way of owning a good example. A popular model is the 233.30.41.21.01.001 selling for about £4,000 – for the stainless steel version. Expect to pay significantly more for the Bond Spectre versions (£7K) and the dual tone chrome / rose gold models (£7.5k).
Is it a Seamaster 300 or most likely a Diver 300m
Don’t confuse this Omega Seamaster 300 with the Omega Seamaster Professional Diver 300m or the Seamaster Planet Ocean. Here’s our guide to recognising the difference between the Omega Diver’s watches. A quick glance at any of these models should be time enough to determine which model it is. If BOTH hands have arrowhead pointers – it’s an Omega Planet Ocean. If ONLY the hour hand has the arrowhead it’s the Seamaster 300 – featured here. The Seamaster Diver 300m is totally different with distinctive skeletal (hollow) hands.

Omega PloProf (Plongeur Professional)

If extreme depth is an essential requirement then the watch that goes deeper than most is the Omega Ploprof. The Ploprof is a term adopted by Omega for their 1200m water resistant profesional divers watch. Accordingly, the watch’s name says it all – Ploprof – is an abbreviation of the French for professional diver – plongeur professionnel.

What to pay for a pre-owned Omega PloProf
Expect to pay somewhere in the region of £5,000 to £7,000 for a pre-owned PloProf. The upper end of the market is for watches in excellent condition with full provenance. In other words, those with a full set of box & papers and preferably some service record. Entry level models to the PloProf market without any box or papers do sometimes sell for less than £5K, but make sure you are certain of provenance and authenticity.
An alternative to the fairly big and bulky Ploprof is the BABY Ploprof (166.025) – these often sell for under £4K. With a water resistancy rating down to “just” 120m – it’s unlikely a buyer is going to dive in it – but it’s a nice alternative to it’s larger, more expensive siblings.
Extreme Depth for Professional Divers
If extreme depth is an essential requirement then the watch that goes deeper than most is the Omega Ploprof. Ploprof is a term Omega adopted for their 1200m water resistant professional divers watch. The watch’s name says it all – Ploprof – is an abbreviation of the French for professional diver – plongeur professionnel.
Titanium Case, Helium Escape valve & Ceramic Bezel
Omega began production of the original PloProf in 1970 – initially designed with a rating to 600m. However, the newer versions have a WR rating down to an impressive 1200m. These 1200m models began production in 2016. Featuring a titanium case with ceramic bezels and an automatic helium escape valve, it’s certainly ready for the deepest dives.
When first introduced in 1970 it was rated to 600m. The new version – released in 2016 – is rated to 1200m. Featuring a titanium with ceramic bezels (some models) and the OMEGA Co-Axial and Master Chronometer calibres. The new Omega Ploprof assures it’s lucky owner of the highest levels of accuracy and reliability.
Omega BOND Watches as worn by 007

This was followed in the 1997 Bond movie, Tomorrow Never Dies, with another Omega Diver 300m. Pierce Brosnan then went on to wear another Omega in The World is Not Enough in 1999.

What to pay for a pre-owned Bond watch
Sellers sometimes refer to the regular Omega Seamaster Diver 300m as a “James Bond watch” as it happens to be like the one 007 wore in a movie. That’s true, he doesn’t wear one with “007” on the dial, but don’t pay more than you should for a standard model. The special Bond watches bear the 007 logo and other subtle Bondesque touches. For example the 2537.80.00 from 2002 (Pierce Brosnan in “Die Another Day”) – a fairly regular Diver 300m with a subtle 007 above the 6 o’clock and 007 etched on the caseback. This watch will sell for somewhere between £2,800 and £3,500.
Try to buy a “full set” with box & papers
A newer example such as the 210.22.42.20.01.004 from 2019 (limited to 7,007 models – celebrating the 50th anniversary of the film “On Her Majesty’s Secret Service“) can fetch as much as £8K.. If you’re very lucky you might find one for £5K. My personal favourite is the Omega Commander’s watch with it’s distinctive white dial and red, white & blue bezel / hands (212.32.41.20.04.001).
We’ve not seen a full set version of this watch sell for less than £4,000 – expect to pay in the region of £4,500+. When purchasing a pre-owned Bond watch aim for a full set, box, papers, cards of authenticity and receipts. This will greatly affect it’s resale value, the more complete the set, the better it will hold it’s value.
Daniel Craig 007 keeping the tradition alive
Since then an Omega has been the go to timepiece of Mr Bond. The current 007, Daniel Craig, is a massive Omega fan, being much involved in the design of the latest watch. The Omega Bond watches cover several models including the Seamaster Diver 300m, the Omega Planet Ocean and now, thanks to Mr Daniel Craig, the classic Omega Seamaster 300. He has worn an Omega Bond watch in the following movies; Casino Royale, Quantum of Solace, Skyfall and Spectre
In this comprehensive video buyers guide an array of Omega Seamaster watches are compared and discussed.

Omega Seamaster FAQ’s
How much is an Omega Seamaster watch worth? anything from $500 for a bruised quartz version with no box, papers or provenance to well over $15,000 for a desirable Master Chronometer model with FULL SET box, papers and warranty card. As with other luxury brands – full set Omega Seamaster watches are far more desirable then those without provenance.
Is it worth buying an Omega Seamaster? absolutely yes. If you want a supreme quality luxury Swiss dive watch that can be worn confidently in all situations and environments from the boardroom to the deck of a 40 foot racing yacht.
Do Omega Seamaster watches hold their value? yes and no. As with most luxury watch brands at this time the market is very volatile. It makes sense to follow the value of a specific model on a website like WATCHMART.com. Our philosophy is simple – if you’re buying a watch to make money – forget it, there are better long term investments. If you are buying it because you love the craftsmanship, engineering, innovation and beauty – get your cash out now.
Answering the question – Is an Omega Seamaster a Good Investment? – it’s a lifestyle investment and something you can pass on to your children. Please don’t just buy it and hide it away in a safe – that’s not how to make money.
